The Last Tow
This painting of a home-going tug shows a daily variant of life on the north arm of the Fraser River, Vancouver. Like many subjects in the series, it is an impression rather than a realistic representation. The artist creates an original story in which time of day is a central participant. The attentive crewman, the equally attentive gulls and the rhythmic sense of movement all invite the viewer to step into the picture, to become part of life on the north arm.
